Our Story: 50 Years of Connecting Southwest New Mexico
For 50 years, our mission has been simple: to provide reliable, essential communication services that connect and empower our communities. As a local company, we believe that when our communities thrive, we all thrive. We’re not just your service provider; we’re your partner in building a better, more connected future.
Our story began in 1974 when Western New Mexico Telephone Company was founded by Jack C. Keen with a promise to serve our local community. Over the decades, we grew from our roots, expanding our service through areas like Cliff, Glenwood, Reserve, and Luna to eventually cover a territory of over 15,000 square miles. Today, doing business as WNM Communications, we’ve continued to grow while holding onto our local values, expanding services into Silver City, Deming, Socorro, and Las Cruces.
Investing in Your Future
We’re not just maintaining our network; we’re rebuilding it for the next generation. We are actively investing in the technology and infrastructure that will power our communities for decades to come. Through ambitious initiatives like our 5-Year Plan to bring a minimum of 100/20 Mbps speeds to all customers and major fiber build-outs funded by programs like the USDA Reconnect Grant in Luna County, we are laying the groundwork for progress. Our network now includes over 750 miles of fiber optics, ensuring our communities have access to the reliable, high-speed internet they need to succeed.
A Commitment to Our Community

Keeping Our Neighbors Connected: When the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended, we stepped up. We created our own Extended Broadband Discount (EBD) program to ensure local families could maintain their essential internet access without interruption.
Empowering the Next Generation: We are proud to support local students through our annual scholarship program, awarding scholarships to graduating seniors from ten different high schools across our service area each year.
Supporting Local Institutions: From providing gigabit fiber connectivity for local school districts through the Southwest Consortium to supporting vital organizations like the Silver City Gospel Mission, we are dedicated to strengthening the institutions that serve us all.
